A realistic efficient non-violent movement is characterized by careful planning and analysis of the oppressor´s strengths and weaknesses. Efficient non-violent movements are progressive, active. It is important to put the majority of our energy on defining and presenting the alternative to violence in each specific conflict.

Today, we know a lot about key factors for successful non-violent struggles. However, little is known about what people hold on to in their minds that enables them to stay with the non-violent alternative in a conflict despite great personal losses.

People in conflicts carry the essential knowledge. They are the only ones who can tell us what would make them choose and stay with the non-violent alternative when challenged by the oppressor. Insights about key factors for maintaining non-violent dicipline would be of great importance in the design of any non-violent struggle.

Peace in the present asks people globally to tell us about what do people hold on to that makes it possible for them to choose and stay with the non-violent alternative. Peace in the present is about asking people who know to tell people who want to know about key factors for maintaining non-violent discipline. By doing this, we could potentially identify key factors that make people hold on to non-violent actions in conflicts. This knowledge can then potentially be useful in the design of any non-violent struggle.

Help us create a list of key factors crucial for choosing and staying with the non-violent approach in a conflict!
